can your film change the worlds Here's a big idea: Pangea Day plans to use the power of film to bring the world a little closer together. We're divided by borders, race, religion, conflict... but most of all by misunderstanding and mistrust. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that -- to help people see themselves in others -- through the power of film. On May 10, 2008 -- Pangea Day -- sites in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro will be linked to produce a 4-hour program of powerful films, visionary speakers, and uplifting music. The program will be broadcast live to the world through the Internet, television, digital cinemas, and mobile phones. Your film could be part of it. The online video revolution has helped spawn a new generation of grass-roots film-makers worldwide. Much of the output, of course, is mediocre. But hidden in there are amazing talents capable of using film to astonishing effect... and capable of telling stories that can create powerful bonds between us. So ask yourself this. If you had the entire world's attention for just a few minutes, what story would you tell? Perhaps you think the world looks at you, your country and your culture... and just doesn't understand. Then do something about it. Make a film and upload it here http://www.youtube.com/group/pangeaday You never know. It could end up bringing millions of people that bit closer together. Pangea is the name of the original super-continent which contained all the world's land mass before the continents started splitting apart 250 million years ago. We're launching Pangea Day with the vision that the people of the world can begin to overcome their divisions, and that the power of film can help make it possible. Movies can't change the world. But the people who watch them can. To register as a film-maker, to get more ideas about film submissions, or to host a screening or learn how you can get involved, please visit our website at http://www.pangeaday.org. barka! pangea! PLEASE READ: Translation of "BARKA!PANGEA!"- barka is a blessing that means 'thank you, please', and BARKA is the name of the nonprofit foundation that created this film. Pangea day is the event this film was created for, a global film festival about creating world peace by showcasing films that see through the eyes of the Other. In "BARKA!PANGEA!" we don't actually get to see through the eyes of the Other. The camera is clearly in the hands of the westerner. However, the opportunity for westerners to see a unique view of Africa, one that shines out with a positive vibration in the face of poverty, has a similar effect on the consciousness of the viewer. In seeing how the beautiful Gour'mache people of Burkina Faso are living, the world's grief, sadness, pain, and imbalances become evident. We hope there are lots of children who watch Pangea Day, including indigenous children who might get the chance to see themselves represented in the day's films. We think that's a powerful idea, and the kind of reciprocity that will help create world peace. In the final 30 seconds of this 5-minute film, the sand in our hourglass is running out. 'Now is the time' for all of us to rise to the challenges posed by our global crises and do what we can to aid the situation. For The BARKA Foundation, that means humanitarian work in Burkina Faso in the areas of clean water, food, education, women's empowerment, micro-finance, and wisdomkeeping. Music: "Now is the Time" by Troy Lush http://www.nowisthetimesong.com The BARKA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization based in both the US and Burkina Faso dedicated to preserving spiritual healing traditions of indigenous cultures and to create the conditions for these wisdoms to be shared with the West. http://www.barkafoundation.org BARKA is hosting a Pangea Day screening at The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA http://www.thecolonialtheatre.org/ For more on Pangea Day go to http://www.pangeaday.org Etiketler:[] [africa] [barka] [ina] [esu] [foundation] [pangea] [jehane] [ted] [burkina] [faso] [anahata] [patlis] [troy] [lush] [nowisthetimesong] |

pangea - memories of pangea Dan Lacksman who produced and engineered the debut Deep Forest album, wanted to get even more into the studio side of things, while Eric and Michel wanted to make Deep Forest more of a live thing. So Dan left Deep Forest to create his own project entitled Pangea. Included in the project were percussionist Frank Michiels, ambient musician Cooky Cue (also worked with Deep Forest on Savana Dance and First & Second Twilight), and Sacha Chaty, who Lacksman said brought a "pop sensibility" to the project. Dan chose the name Pangea based on the idea that all humanity was once one people in Africa which some scientists believe was the center of the mega-continent Pangea.
