This is a famous road in Berlin/Germany, my town. So I made a ride with my car on it with my little camera on the drivers wheel. berlin's kurfurstendamm Arriving at Berlin Hauptbahnhof and finding my way through Kurfürstendamm, Berlin's famous shopping boulevard... charging my VISA card at KaDeWe and then redeem my shopaholic soul at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche (Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church). This Protestant Church was bombed during the World War II. The tower ruin, the only remainder of the old building, was kept as a symbol of postwar Berlin. It's also known as "der Hohle Zahn" ("the hollow tooth"). There is a museum located in a small room called the Gedenkhalle (Memorial Hall), that remains next to the tower. As its replacement, right next to the ruin. On December 17, 1961 the new church was consecrated. The ultra modern octagonal church and a 172 foot campanile containing six bells, were built with 20,000 dark-blue windows. rudolf nelson's shimmy - der harem vom kurfurstendamm, 1924 Harem z Kurfürstendam ("Der Harem vom Kurfürstendamm") Shimmy from the Revue "Der Harem auf Reisen" (Rudolph Nelson)- Bohème Orchester, Beka 1924 (Polish pressing) ---------------------------------- Rudolf (Rudolph) Nelson (1878—1960) - German composer of hit songs, film music, operetta and vaudeville, founder/director of the Nelson Revue, a significant cabaret troupe on the 1920/30s Berlin nightlife scene. Issued from a poor Prussian Jewish family, and raised in Berlin, Nelson began piano lessons at a very young age. After secondary school, while simultaneously earning a living as an apprentice and subsequently clerk, he received a scholarship from Heinrich von Herzogenberg to the Stern Conservatory. Nelson first came into public view during this same period when, in a contest organized by the newspaper Die Woche, he was awarded first prize for the best composition of a waltz. But the real turning point came when Nelson discovered the Überbrettl, Berlins first cabaret founded by Ernst von Wolzogens. Inspired by the genre, he began his cabaret career at the Potsdamer Straße cabaret Roland, accompanying his own compositions on the piano. In 1904, he joined forces with Paul Schneider-Duncker in the famed Chat Noir on Unter den Linden, Berlins most fashionable avenue, going on to direct it on his own from 1907 1914. It also is here that Nelson composed one of his most famous hit songs „Das Ladenmädel, as well as from 1908 onwards wrote his famous operetta works, notably Miss Dudelsack. In 1920, Nelson married singer Käthe Erlholz, and in the same year opened the Nelson-Theater on Kurfürstendamm (associated with the Sans Souci restaurant). The revues he staged here are legend, presenting numerous top stars of the period, including names such as Josephine Baker, who appeared on January 14th 1926, Weintraubs Syncopators and comic Max Ehrlich. During these years, Nelson also composed revues for Berlins famed Metropol-Theater in the Admiralspalast. Forced by the Nazis in 1933 to flee Germany - after stopping for stage appearances in Vienna and Zurich - Nelson founded a new theater troupe in Amsterdam, until after the German occupation he was interned in Westerbork concentration camp. Nelson survived the Holocaust, and in 1949 returned to Berlin where he reopened the Nelson-Revue-Gastspiel. Among many German cabaret-evergreens he composed, are such international hits as the 1924 shimmy „ Wenn du meine Tante siehst (When You See My Aunt) or Marlene Dietrichs „Peter, Peter.
